Senior Repair Technician
Reports to: Workshop Manager  ·  Efficiency: 110% and above  ·  Mentors: Junior Repair Technicians
Purpose of the role

The Senior Repair Technician is the benchmark for repair quality at Fergies. They operate at 110% efficiency and above, handle the full range of mechanical and electrical repairs including complex cases, provide confident minor diagnostic support, and actively mentor junior repair technicians.

Success at this level looks like
  • Efficiency consistently at 110% or above
  • Zero negligence comebacks, sustained without exception
  • Technical comebacks consistently below 1% of jobs
  • Complex mechanical and electrical repairs completed correctly first time
  • Junior repair technicians visibly improving as a direct result of their mentoring
Core responsibilities
  • Carry out the full range of mechanical repairs independently including complex multi-system repairs across all makes in the Fergies range
  • Carry out the full range of electrical repairs independently including complex electrical system diagnosis and repair
  • Provide minor diagnostic support using manufacturer diagnostic equipment
  • Follow the manufacturer workshop manual exactly without exception
  • Carry out the SSS check on every vehicle independently within 40 minutes to the highest documentation standard
  • Maintain a clean, organised bay that sets the example for the rest of the team
Leadership responsibilities
  • Actively mentor and support junior repair technicians through example, coaching and feedback
  • Support the Workshop Manager in identifying where junior technicians need further development
  • Flag any workshop quality, process or conduct concerns promptly
Start of day
  • Arrive in clean, presentable Fergies uniform
  • Check all SSS tools — report any issues to WSM immediately
  • Check all hand tools — report any issues to WSM immediately
  • Check in with junior repair technicians on their first jobs
During the day
  • Work through jobs independently setting the quality and efficiency standard
  • Complete SSS checks within 40 minutes to the highest documentation standard
  • Support junior repair technicians with technical guidance as needed
  • Empty the bay bin before it overflows Bin SOP
  • Return all tools to their exact catalogued location Tool Finder SOP
End of day
  • Confirm all job cards are completed accurately
  • Leave the bay in exemplary condition
  • Shut down the PC and apply updates
  • Put the workshop phone on charge
  • Raise any development observations with the WSM

Full repair scope authority
  • All mechanical repairs across the full Fergies vehicle range including complex multi-system work
  • All electrical repairs including complex wiring, sensor and actuator faults
  • Minor diagnostic support for fault code interpretation and root cause identification on straightforward faults
  • Guidance and direction to junior repair technicians
Escalated to WSM or Troubleshooter Technician
  • Complex multi-system diagnostic faults within the Troubleshooter Technician scope
  • Any repair where root cause is unclear after thorough investigation
  • All customer contact — always through front of house
