Repair Technician
Reports to: Workshop Manager · Efficiency: 90 to 110% · Progression: Performance-based
Purpose of the role
The Repair Technician is a fully independent operator across the full range of mechanical and electrical repairs on German vehicles and Jaguar Land Rover. They carry out repairs without supervision, make standard repair decisions confidently, and provide minor diagnostic support when required.
Success at this level looks like
- Efficiency consistently within the 90 to 110% band
- Mechanical and electrical repairs completed independently and correctly first time
- SSS inspections completed independently within 40 minutes every time
- Zero negligence comebacks and technical comebacks below 1%
- Standard repair decisions made independently and correctly
Core responsibilities
- Carry out the full range of mechanical repairs independently — brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust, drivetrain, engine ancillaries across the full Fergies vehicle range
- Carry out electrical repairs independently — lighting, wiring, sensors, actuators and ancillary electrical components
- Provide minor diagnostic support — use manufacturer diagnostic equipment to identify straightforward fault codes
- Follow the manufacturer workshop manual exactly on every job without exception
- Carry out the Fergies SSS check on every vehicle independently and within 40 minutes
- Document all findings fully on the job card — never advise a customer directly
Start of day
- Arrive in clean, presentable Fergies uniform
- Check all SSS tools — report any issues to WSM immediately
- Check all hand tools — report any issues to WSM immediately
- Review the day's jobs and confirm all parts are ready
During the day
- Work through repair jobs independently following the workshop manual
- Complete SSS check on every vehicle within 40 minutes
- Complete job card documentation immediately after each task
- Empty the bay bin before it overflows Bin SOP
- Return all tools to their exact catalogued location Tool Finder SOP
End of day
- Confirm all job cards are completed accurately
- Leave the bay clean and organised
- Shut down the PC and apply updates
- Put the workshop phone on charge

Progressing to Senior Repair Technician
Progression requires consistently exceeding the mid-tier efficiency band and demonstrating technical depth across the full repair scope. No minimum time in role.
