Junior Repair Technician
Reports to: Workshop Manager · Efficiency: 80 to 90% · Progression: Performance-based
Purpose of the role
The Junior Repair Technician is building the foundational skills needed to carry out mechanical and electrical repairs on German vehicles and Jaguar Land Rover to the Fergies standard. They work under the direct supervision of the Workshop Manager, learning to approach every repair methodically, safely and in line with the manufacturer workshop manual.
Success at this level looks like
- Efficiency building steadily and sitting consistently between 80 and 90%
- Carrying out assigned repair tasks correctly under supervision with zero negligence comebacks
- Completing SSS inspections under supervision and learning the process thoroughly
- Showing clear improvement in mechanical and basic electrical competency month on month
Core responsibilities
- Carry out mechanical repairs under WSM supervision — brakes, steering, suspension, exhausts, drivetrain and related systems
- Carry out basic electrical repairs under supervision — lighting, fuses, basic wiring and ancillary electrical components
- Follow the manufacturer workshop manual exactly on every job
- Use only genuine or OE quality parts as instructed
- Carry out the Fergies SSS check on every vehicle assigned, under supervision while learning
- Document all findings and work on the job card accurately and promptly
- Never advise a customer directly — all additional work goes through the job card
Start of day
- Arrive in clean, presentable Fergies uniform
- Check all SSS tools — report any issues to the WSM immediately
- Check all hand tools — report any issues to the WSM immediately
- Check in with the WSM on the day's jobs
During the day
- Work through repair jobs under supervision following the workshop manual
- Complete the SSS check on every vehicle
- Complete job card documentation immediately after each task
- Empty the bay bin before it overflows Bin SOP
- Return all tools to their exact catalogued location Tool Finder SOP
End of day
- Confirm all job cards are completed accurately
- Return all tools to correct catalogued locations
- Leave the bay clean and organised
- Shut down the PC and apply updates
- Put the workshop phone on charge

Progressing to Repair Technician (Mid)
Progression is performance-based. No minimum time in role. The following must be demonstrated consistently before progression is considered.
What must be demonstrated
- Efficiency consistently within or above the 80 to 90% band without supervision
- Able to carry out all standard mechanical repairs independently with no help or advice required
- Able to carry out standard electrical repairs independently across the Fergies vehicle range
- SSS inspections completed independently and to the required standard within 40 minutes
- Zero negligence comebacks sustained over a meaningful period
- Technical comebacks tracking at or below 1% of jobs completed
